What you need to be a good CA

The skill set is something that should be called as very critical when it comes to choosing the field in which you want to make your career. If someone aspires to be a businessman then he should possess the ability of decision-making, managing the things, up to the mark executing skills and etc. Someone who wants to make a career as an artist should know how to touch the other person’s heart with his work. Similar to the aforementioned fields, if you want to become a good charted accountant there are few ingredients for it that you need to possess. So let’s discuss those ingredients.

1. You need to be a good listener

The job of charted accountant demands your full attention when meeting with a client. You need to listen whatever he has to say in a focused manner. The client should have your undivided attention so that you don’t have to interrupt him for begging a pardon. Remember one thing interrupting someone is one of the finest ways to irritate him/her.

2. You are required to have a critical thinking

A charted accountant’s brain should be able to analyze every situation he is facing at work in a critical manner. It’s essential for him to consider pros and cons of every method and solutions. Critical thinking helps to have a clear picture of something a charted accountant is working on. Moreover, it provides him with an idea of what might lay ahead if he takes any specific decision.

3. Social perceptiveness

This is another essential ingredient to become a good charted accountant. A CA must know how to analyze the behaviour of the people around him. The job doesn’t end here as he should be capable enough to find the reason behind someone’s reaction to a particular situation. Studying people’s reactions to anything they are countering is something a CA should excel in.

4. Sensing the potential issue

A charted accountant needs to be alert for finding any glitch in something. He needs to study it thoroughly first before informing the concerned people. The verification about the existence of issue is also done in some cases. Solving the issue doesn’t come under the domain of this topic. It only tells that a CA should be smart enough for spotting even the smallest of problems.

5. Ability to comprehend

The job of a charted accountant is a prestigious one. If a CA is not able to comprehend the information that client is giving to him, then he should work on his abilities or leave this profession.

6. Monitoring in one’s own performance

Quite similar to what we mentioned in one of the previous points, a charted accounted should know how assess his own and other people performance. If there is an area that requires a bit of work, then he should not hesitate in covering it up. Also, if a CA thinks that he is just perfect, and never analyzes his own perfomance then there is a strong chance that one day his attitude might become the reason for his sacking from the work.

7. Needs to have clarity in thoughts

A charted accountant cannot succeed if his thoughts are not clear to him. Hardly any client likes a confused CA who struggles to explain his perspective without confusing the other people. The thought process of a CA should be positive and clear while explaining something.

8. Needs to have clarity in writings

Continuing the last point, a charted accountant should know how to write something in a simple and understandable manner. A good CA doesn’t show off his vocabulary by using big words while writing. His focus should be on writing an uncomplicated and valuable piece consisting of all the vital points that a client might need.

9. Communication skills

Communication skills are highly important when it comes to becoming a good charted accountant. A CA should know how to convey his opinions in an effortless manner. He needs to have an assuring tone to fill the client with confidence that he is dealing with the right person.

10. Art of presenting

A wise man has said that if you can’t make it good at least make it look good. A charted accountant should have the knack of presenting his approach to his client in the best possible way. He also needs to present alternative solutions for client’s problem in a flawless manner. The client should have the impression that solutions presented to him are completely verified and critically examined.

11. Time management

Wasting time is not the trait of a successful person. Therefore, a charted accountant should know how to manage his time to make it productive for him. Managing others time is also something a CA should be aware of.

12. Information ordering

A charted accountant must know how to arrange the work contents into a specific pattern. Arranging the things ease up a CA’s workload, hence, a relaxed CA works more efficiently.

13. Mathematical reasoning

Charted accountant’s relationship with numbers is an old one. To become a good CA one must know the game of numbers, formulas and methods. He should be skilled in using the best method and formula, to solve a problem.

14. Self-motivation

Being a charted accountant can be tiresome sometimes. You might feel stressed out, but during this phase motivating yourself in treading further in your career is another trait to become a good CA. Try to learn something new from every challenge you face at work. This way your will to work might never diminish.

15. Strict adherence to the principles

A charted accountant should be disciplined when it comes to working. He should stick to his principles irrespective of the situation. A good CA should never let someone doubt his integrity. Doing the job in an honest manner is very important to achieve the success in your career.

16. Team=working ability

A charted accountant might have to work in a team sometimes, so he should be aware of how to co-operate with his teammates for fulfilling their objective.
